‘Silence is not merely the sound of no speech — it is the discovery of other lives, other worlds. Not surprisingly, psychologists who study the impact of silence have found that one of the most important benefits of a “speech fast” may be better interpersonal relationships. That’s something worth staying quiet for.’ - The Indian Express
We are learning so much about the art of speech as we are on a spiritual journey of integrity and clarity. The channel through which you communicate with words is through the throatchakra, and when it is not balanced, many empaths tend to experience all forms of communicative distress with negative speech, self-doubt, gossip, harsh judgement to the self and others.
Words are a communicative and expressive tool to carry truths to the surface, but sometimes words aren’t met with clarity. Maybe this is why we might desire a collective mini speech detox, especially on unique astrological and geological moments like todays Total Solar Eclipse.
‘I also wonder whether there’s a wider life lesson here. I’ve nothing to conserve, vocally, but it’s possible my compadres could use a little peace and quiet.’ - The Guardian
Staying silent until midday might not be feasible for everyone, but to consider speech fasting according to your schedule, this might encourage and support spiritual and meditative renewal.
“Speech-fasting” is when you zip your lips until NOON—no chitchat, not even a whisper. You stumble out of bed, reach for that steaming cup of coffee, but hey, hold up—no talking till you’ve guzzled it down.’ - Rock 9.29
‘Psychologist Dr. Robert N. Kraft has asserted that engaging in periods of prolonged silence helps a person to become a better listener.’ - AOL
Speech fasting is also a great way to recognize patterns that you no longer want to pursue in speaking and listening, going back to basics, relearning conscious listening. Taking a break from incessant mindless talking and reactive response giving can also inspire more meaningful conversation where motivation and intention combine to lead to well thought out solutions and conscious personal evolution.
‘I noticed there was a lot of emptiness in my conversations. Most of the things I was saying wasn’t bringing any benefit to the listener.’ - Medium
‘In Hindu philosophy, mauna is the practice of silence, according to the publication, which teaches that “quieting the voice helps us to acknowledge the background of stillness that is our true nature” proving that silence is, indeed, golden.’ - New York Post
‘A 2021 study found that participants who performed tasks that require concentration in silence experienced the least cognitive load and had the lowest levels of cortisol, the stress hormone.’ - Hello Mag India
The gift of practicing intentional silence can instill a higher level of multidimensional focus while also stimulating continuous brain growth and mental health support.
Biblically speaking, what you say matters. This idea behind intentional speech is strengthening the spiritual tongue and regulating the emotiona from chaos into productive matter. Through this neurological growth, negative habits may be broken and positive habits may be implemented.
This is an opportunity to purify your tongue with silence to be then able to speak more truthfully and honestly. So in this case, silence can be golden 💛
“Your mouth utters your iniquity, and you choose the tongue of the crafty.” - Job 15:5
